The second fatal Tesla accident

The second fatal accident occurded on March 23, 2018 when Walter Huang, a 38-year-old Apple Inc. engineer, dies after his Model X crashes into highway barrier in Mountain View, California. Tesla first commented in a blog post titled, “What We Know About Last Week’s Accident.”

On March 30th, 2018 Tesla released a second blog post that acknowledged Autopilot had been engaged at the time of the crash. “The driver had received several visual and one audible hands-on warning earlier in the drive and the driver’s hands were not detected on the wheel for six seconds prior to the collision,” Tesla writes.

On April 12, 2018 the NTSB releases a statement saying it had removed Tesla as a party to its crash investigation. “The NTSB took this action because Tesla violated the party agreement by releasing investigative information before it was vetted and confirmed by the NTSB.”

We will continue to update this as the official investigation continues.
