REVIEW: Autopilot Navigating a Difficult Situation

In our featured review last week, one owner called Autopilot a 'dangerous disaster.' This week, the review is quite the opposite and the owner gave Autopilot a perfect rating in all categories:

How Safe I Felt: 5 Stars
Reliability: 5 Stars
Ease of Use: 5 Stars
I'd Recommend this Car to Family or Friends: 5 Stars
Overall Experience: 5 Stars

This owner was driving in a 2017, Model S, in Longwood, Florida last month.

Not only did the owner give the vehicle a perfect rating on all categories, he went on to explain a potentially dangerous situation that the vehicle and Autopilot ideally handled.

Here was his explanation:

"With Autopilot software version 2017.46 engaged, I was traveling through a large, six-lane intersection that had no lane markings and has a slight bend, requiring cars to turn slightly to maintain their lane as they cross. A Mini illegally crossed two lanes of traffic ahead of me. The surprise was that Autopilot slowed to give the Mini room for the lane change, but did not lock on and attempt to follow that car. Instead, it stuck to its lane, navigated the slight bend and moved on through the intersection."

In scanning Twitter and a lot of other sources it is common to come across a Tesla owner, or other autonomous vehicle rider or owner, crediting the vehicle for avoiding a collision. Unfortunately it is often the accidents that generate the most media buzz, but there are countless situations where the vehicles perform exactly as they should, and often times better than a human can. It is our goal to generate exposure for all experiences, positive and negative.

Check back next week for another review!
